"We're trying to anticipate where the tuner scene might be in a couple of years, not just follow what's already out there," claims Chuck. More licensed cars will be on offer, but the selection of car types has also been broadened far beyond the traditional Hondas and Toyotas. This time, the number of potential car modifications has been massively expanded, and now embraces performance tuning as well as visual changes. The core aim of the game is to grow and develop your reputation as a street racer, earning new parts and upgrades along the way to hot up your ride and hopefully impress some chicks. "We're making sure this is a proper sequel and not just a kind of 'Underground 1.5'," says Chuck. NFSU2's go-anywhere urban sprawl is three times the size of the original, with five distinct neighbourhoods to unlock and a much wider variety of race types. This is a significant shift from the original Underground, which presented the illusion of a coherent city but was really just a series of interconnecting tracks. ![]() "You have to explore the city to find out where the races are, how to get the best cars, how to find the best races and how to get all the best parts for your car." The racing game market has grown along with the tides, but at least we can always look back on Need for Speed: Underground 2 as a truly amazing racing experience that will endure in the minds and hearts of many players."The game is all about discovering the tuner culture," says executive producer Chuck Osieja. Fans all over the world have been yearning for remakes of OG Underground and Most Wanted. I’m sure that many people, including myself, would be eager to buy a nostalgia hit of this gem if they ever recreated it. And most players still consider it to be one of the most enjoyable racing games ever. If comparing the original racing game to what they released later, it is simple to conclude that the 2004 version is exceptional for new entries and is the finest in the franchise. When the game first came out, it was well-received by reviews. A carefully considered and well-balanced car system that enables player attachments to vehicles. Today, nearly every auto manufacturer has at least one vehicle in its lineup with a continuously variable transmission. Subaru was the first automotive manufacturer to utilize a CVT in their vehicles in the late eighties, which officially introduced this transmission into the mainstream automotive world. They were later banned from hill-climbing competitions. These motorcycles became popular because of their efficiency and were even used in competitions. The first CVT was used in motorcycles by Zenit. However, the CVT design was officially patented by Daimler and Benz in 1886. He then started using this transmission in his automobiles and other manufacturers started to use the Reeves CVT. In 1879, Milton Reeves, a pioneer in the automotive industry designed a CVT which was called a variable speed transmission. Leonardo DaVinci wasn’t just known for his artwork but he was an engineer and he created the first Continuously Variable Transmission in 1490. According to experts, advancements in the design of the CVT are going to make this type of transmission mainstream. As the driver accelerates and speeds up the vehicle will automatically change out of this gear and begin working as a regular CVT. The Launch Gear is like setting the car in first gear in an automatic transmission. The automaker modified the traditional CVT so that it feels like a conventional automatic transmission. Several of Toyota’s CVT-based vehicles use Launch Gear. Nissan recently released the first hybrid SUV with a Continuously Variable Transmission. For instance, Toyota's Corolla S lineup utilizes a CVT with preset modes like sport’s mode, paddle shifters, and even seven additional artificial gears that help regulate engine rev and other inconvenient gripes with CVTs. Over the years, CVTs have evolved and auto manufacturers have improved the design of this type of transmission. Simply put, a Continuously Variable Transmission consists of a belt, a driving pulley system, and a torque pulley. This allows for smooth acceleration and fuel efficiency. The diameter of the two pulleys can be adjusted to achieve an infinite number of torque ratios to match the output shaft. Therefore, the gear ratios are able to seamlessly change by moving one part of the pulley closer together and the other further apart. One side is connected to the transmission and the other to the engine. The cross-section of the belt rides higher on one side of the pulley and rides lower on the opposite pulley. The pulleys are made up of two cone-shaped halves that both move together and apart. With CVT drivers don’t experience hard shift points which is why over the years, this transmission is often referred to as shiftless or single-speed.Ī traditional Continuously Variable Transmission employs the use of two pulleys that are connected to a chain or a V belt. Instead, the transmission gear ratios are instantly changing and adjusting to the driving conditions and styles. A Continuously Variable Transmission doesn’t have fixed preset gears. ![]() My Nikon Z9 Sports Settings This is what I have found works for me.As happened to Martin Waugh, you might start taking photos and before you know it, it is ten years later and you’ve made over 100,000 frames, and you are having so much fun you just can’t stop. Buying a tabletop studio kit, consider the light tent an optional piece of equipment to use for that occasional high contrast object.Ī word of caution too, using a tabletop studio is addictive. The low contrast lighting environment inside a tent can take the snap and crispness out of a subject and leave it shapeless. However, they aren’t meant for general photography. They reduce contrast by somewhat eliminating the hot spots (glare) on the shiny surfaces. Light tents are nice for photographing difficult to light shiny objects. Many commercially available tabletop studios kits come with light tents. After making an adjustment, I take a shot and reviewing it can instantly see any change. To darken shadows, all I have to do is move the fill light farther back, to lighten them I move it closer. The left hand light is usually my main light and the one on the right my fill. With a two light setup, controlling contrast range is a matter of repositioning the lights. Watching the camera’s LCD monitor or viewing through its viewfinder, move the camera until the subject, surrounded by the background, fills the frame. Start with the objects about two-thirds of the way from the wall on the flat part of the background. With background and lights in place, next position the subject on the background. Shooting handheld there would be no way to replicate the previous frame, with the camera on a tripod, it’s a cinch. After reviewing a picture on the monitor, I may want to reposition the subject or the lights or try a different exposure. Use a tripod when shooting with a tabletop studio not just for its stability, but to have the ability to retain the framing of the subject image to image. ![]() Perhaps of greatest importance is that using a telephoto lens allows for a larger working distance between the camera lens and the subject, which makes lighting easier. The telephoto’s somewhat narrow depth of field also helps to keep the background out of focus, even at lens apertures like f/11 or f/16. First, it produces a compaction of perspective, which makes objects look more the way we “see” them than a wide angle lens would. Shooting with a tabletop studio it is best to use a moderate 100-135mm (equivalent) telephoto lens or a zoom lens set to an equivalent focal length. Initially, set the lights so they are two or three feet above the tabletop surface, on each side of the background and place the stands a few feet in front of the background. Whatever lighting you choose, it is handy to have the lights mount on stands. Another option is to do what Martin Waugh did and opt for bigger strobes he uses a pair of Vivitar 285HV flashes. These low power units work very well for most photography. Several of our advertisers sell kits of pairs of “slaved” flashes for under $100. Use accessory strobes rather than the popup on your camera. Their frontal light is downright ugly and using the camera flash allows you no way to control shadows or contrast. For a more professional look - as in the photos with this post - you can get small 11x15 or 15x22-inch vinyl graduated (black to gray to white) backgrounds from any number of online suppliers including or Electronic strobes work very well with tabletop studios too, but not the ones built into a digital camera. My tabletop studio set-up is on a table in one corner of my office and to make changing backgrounds easier, I have attached clips to the wall above the table. Then lay the bottom of the paper on the table with a gentle curve where table and wall meet. For example, tape a 20 x 30-inch piece of poster paper to the wall about 15 inches above a table. The simplest background is a large piece of white or colored paper hung from a wall and draped onto a tabletop. To emphasize this effect, the background is hung to create a horizonless 3-dimensional space, not a flat one. ![]() The background’s emptiness focuses our attention on the object photographed. The background paper defines an empty space and allows the viewer to see an object without distraction. The key to a tabletop studio is the background paper. There are two basic components to any studio the background and the lighting. |
